On November 28th, Jackalope will present it’s adaptation of Charles Mee’s Under Construction. The piece looks at memory and the American family through the lenses of Norman Rockwell and modern assemblage art and asks, how do we know the truth about our lives if our memories are affected by our feelings toward them? Through a whirling clutter of color and sounds, the play propels it’s main character towards realization and acceptance. Under Construction is a patchwork of memory, catapulting between the idealism of the past and a heavily constructed present ultimately asking where the truth of a person fits in. Noting that we are collages of our family, our education, and our choices, in Under Construction when a young woman is bombarded by her past she uses art to organize her memories and try to make sense of them.
Coming on the heels of their Jackalope’s critically acclaimed Moonshiner, Under Construction promises to be a pastiche of emotion, a grounded work of moving imagery and thought provoking treat for all.
