JACKALOPE THEATRE COMPANY
PRESENTS THE WORLD PREMIERE OF
WRITTEN BY CALAMITY WEST
DIRECTED BY MARTI LYONS
NOVEMBER 7 – DECEMBER 14, 2013
Jackalope Theatre Company, the Edgewater-based group which cultivates theatre that manifests the adventure deeply rooted in the American mythos, announces the first production in its sixth season. Jackalope’s season kicks off with the world premiere of THE PEACOCK, written by Calamity West and directed Marti Lyons. It will play November 7 – December 14 at City Lit Theater, 1020 W. Bryn Mawr in Chicago. Tickets will be available starting October 15, through jackalopetheatre.org or by calling 773.340.2543. The Press Performance is Thursday, November 7 at 7:30pm.
Commissioned by Jacklope in July 2012, THE PEACOCK features Jackalope Artistic Director AJ Ware and Jackalope Director of Development & Community Engagement Andrew Burden Swanson, along with Ed Dzialo, Tim Martin, Jack Miggins, and Nate Whelden. THE PEACOCK transports us to December 1946, where the fiction-writing workshop at an American university is in session. Consisting of young veterans of World War II, and sons of upper class – the workshop possesses but one woman: Nan (AJ Ware). A one-legged wunderkind who is forced by her peers to re-examine her violent fiction as a result of the recent suicide of their classmate Eleanor. Based in a world where intellectual prowess is currency, Calamity West brings us this uniquely American exploration of violence, authorial intent, and gender.
The production team for THE PEACOCK includes: John Wilson (scenic design), Mac Vaughey (lighting design), Samantha Jones (costume design), Mel Gill (props design), Mikey Moran (sound design), Artistic Associate Claire Sangster (master electrician), Ryan Bourque (violence design), Mara Stern (assistant director), Jen Dorman (poster design), Bobby Kennedy (dramaturgy), Literary Manager Jon Cohen (historical research), Artistic Associate Josh Lambert (technical direction), Allison Raynes (production stage manager), Mikayla Pasquale (assistant stage manager), and Managing Director Nate Silver (producer).
